Drawing From Life

I have always enjoyed life drawing. These days the use of charcoal and the faster style that I tend to adopt in undertaking life drawing is a healthy antidote and alternative to the use of pen and ink that I use in my urban sketching. I particularly enjoy the challenge of drawing from dance, a hitting-a-moving-target exercise which requires absolute in-the-moment concentration, a strategy for transferring a mental snapshot of a moment in the action on to paper, and some fast work with a roll of tape to replace one piece of paper on the easel with another whilst the dancers are in motion. The majority of these images were generated at the same session at Bampton Village Hall in Oxfordshire in 2017 organised and run by the tireless and tenacious Felicity Cormack. Thanks Felicity!
